I played on a professional model from 1973, and i have recently purchased an S16.One thing that sets them apart from any fox/linton is that they are a german made bassoon!!! From my experience the ease of playing on one from the other is significantly distinguishable. The sound to me is just better, I play in a wind ensemble with a girl who plays on a Fox/Renard 240 artist model, and I just blow her bassoon away with my dynamic range and excellent staccatos with the schrieber, her fox sounds soft and weak.although fox bassoons are very nice dont get me wrong, but the good fox bassoons cost alot, the lower end 222-240 models and the plastic ones are JUNK!

I have an old Schreiber bassoon that I bought off of Craigslist a while ago that I practice at home on and I'm just curious as to what model it is and how it fares against a standard like the fox Renard series of horns. It is an almost exact carbon copy of this horn () except mine is only keyed to high c. Everything else is the same, and by same I mean that if I added a high d key to my bassoon they would be identical twins, right down to the wood grain, key-guards, key hinges, and logo on the bell. The serial number on the boot cap is 90xx, and the serial number on the top of the boot joint under the strap hook is 196xx.

The Bohemian part of the 'music-belt', represented by the chief cities of Graslitz and Schonbach, belonged to the newly-founded Czechoslovak Republic. As a result of the Munich agreement of September 1938, the Czech Republic, occupied by a majority of ethnic Germans, was annexed by the Third Reich. Shortly after the annexation to the German Reich, many employees of the Puchner Firm were called up by the German military. During World War II, the company continued to make musical instruments although mainly for export but it was also partly turned over to war production for the manufacture of airplane parts. After nearly 50 years in business and just after World War II in 1947, a government commission from Prague under the so-called 'Benes decree' appropriated and liquidated the Puchner business into the Czech State Enterprise, 'AMATI'. Josef was forced to work as an instrument tuner for a time while the rest of the family was exiled to Nauheim in the the state of Hesse where other instrument makers from Graslitz (now called Kraslice) had already been relocated.
Also the case is changet for that reason, so that the extention goes through a hole inside the tool-box in the case.
